Hike up to the amazing Cathedral Tree right in Astoria! This huge Sitka Spruce is over 400 years old, and was probably impressive to the Lewis and Clark Corps of Discovery when they passed through in 1805. The ridge that the Cathedral Tree grows on has slowly eroded over the centuries, exposing it's roots. Now you can climb through the resulting tunnel system, or gaze upward at the magnificent spruce.
The trail head is located on Irving Avenue in Astoria. Just ask any Local how to get there. Park, and walk about 1/3 of a mile up a really nicely maintained trail. All along the trail there are markers identifying native plant species. The Cathedral Tree trail is one of Astoria's best kept secrets. Check it out. Oh, and the cost is FREE!
Keep walking up the trail about a mile and you wind up at the Astoria Column, which is another great thing to do.
The Officer's Inn is 15 minutes from the Cathedral Tree and the Astoria Column. Come stay with us!
